Yoga is an ancient practice aimed at uniting body and mind. It focusses on strength, flexibility and breathing to improve physical and mental wellbeing (NHS).
Originated in India 5,000 years, yoga has been adapted in a variety of ways drawing increasingly on recent findings that support it is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity and relaxation. Benefits include improved physical and mental health.
A practice for everyone: There are many forms and styles of yoga ranging from slow-paced, restorative practices to fast-paced, dynamic movement. All address in one way or another the balance of the nervous system whilst increasing our individual range of motion and body awareness.
In this way we cultivate more sensitivity towards our embodied mind and learn to recognise and release stress, anxiety and depression in our everyday life. The exploration of the interplay between our body and mind enables us to maximise our inner resources for coping, healing and growth.
